debt reduction
Computer Newbie asked:

I am creating a chart in Excel to show if it is better to pay off higher interest credit cards first or if it is better to start paying the lowest balance and keep on rolling into the next lowest balance until everything is paid off. I want to show a table (similar to an amortization table in with a mortgage that shows remaining balance and total interest paid) but I want it to display how long it would take to pay off by adding X amount of dollars per month to the minimum. I started putting this together and realized it is a little over my head.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I want it to be very similar to this chart:

Is there an Excel Debt Reduction Calculator that takes into account Variable APR’s? I have a new Balance Transfer Offer from one of my Credit Card Companies and I’d like to see the numbers. e.g. 3.99% APR for 12 mos, then 12.99% APR thereafter, VS. my current 14.99% APR. Also, the Balance Transfer Fee would be 3% of the transfer up to $150 max. Is there an Amortization sheet already created for this somewhere??
Cold, this is not a new card that I am opening, but rather just a new offer. Thanks.
moenko, thank you for the reply. Yes, it is seen as so, but I have had other offers in the past where it wasn’t as easy to be seen, hence I would still like to know if the technology is available somewhere. Thanks!

I received a letter from this place claiming they can settle my unsecured debt for 1/2 of what I owe. I did some searching & can’t find anything about them. Not sure if that is actually the name of the company, but that is all the letter says. There is no address & the ph # is 1-866-403-7945. My gut tells me it’s a scam, but I was hoping someone may know for sure.

With gas going so high all the time, I’m seriously considering it. How did it work out for you? Do you know how long it stays on your credit file? Does it hurt as bad as bankruptcy?

Chloe asked:

My mother and father have been divorced for about 8 years now. My brother and I are 19 and 22 respectively. The divorce happened the year before my father retired and was therefore based upon the income he made while he was working. He didn’t mind this because he wanted my brother and I to live (with our mother) as comfortably as possible. However, two years ago my mother kicked me out of the house, so I went to live with my father, who then stopped having to pay child support for me.

When my brother turned 18, social security stopped paying family benefits for him so my dad has been paying for him completely out of pocket. Because of this (and other factors) my father is drowning in debt, since the child support amount was agreed upon, my fathers income has dropped from @85k to 40k a year, while my mothers’ has risen from 36k to at least 49k (49k was the money she made in 2008, before child support). My dad pays 750 a month for my brother, which is a third of his income, and he also has me living with him on summers and long holidays when I’m not in away at college.

My mother is (to put it kindly) a shady lady. I never saw a dime of child support when I lived with her, while she’s treated herself to a second car (a convertible), two big screen TVs, and many other extravagances. She also tricked me into taking out loans for college, even though the divorce decree stated that once a child enters college all of the CS money will go towards room, board, books, and other school expenses, she had more than enough money for this from the child support alone.

She’s also worked hard to poison my younger brother’s mind against my father, the kid dropped out of college after 10 weeks and is covered in obscene tattoos a few of which my mother actually paid for (I have no problem with tattoos as a form of self expression, but to irreversibly brand yourself on a whim on your 18th birthday is moronic). Anyway, the kid only comes over to bum money off my dad, and believes that he’s a deadbeat because he’s not giving my mom child support for me, despite the fact that I don’t even speak to her.

Taking all of these factors into account, would my dad have a valid claim on a child support reduction for my brother? My mom is a nasty piece of work and will battle tooth and nail to take everything my father has, and she’s going to make sure it’s as difficult as possible for my father so he’ll need a strong case against her.

Thanks!

Beau Durkin

30 weeks pregnant asked:

Yes, I am currently pregnant, but this is information that I would like to have after the pregnancy and beast feeding.

My questions:
Do you think I am a good candidate for ****** reduction surgery?
Do you think insurance will pay for my ****** reduction?(I recently got medicaid)
What kind of doctor do I see to determine whether a ****** reduction is medically beneficial?

My situation:
I started to develop ******* at the young age of 8 years old. I was a “C” cup at the end of 6th grade(twelve years old). Before I was pregnant I was a “32G”. Now I am an “I” at about 30 weeks. I understand my ******* will be larger temporarily, but they were still pretty massive to begin with. lol

Before I was pregnant, I had back pain below my shoulder blades almost constantly. I remember going in to see my pediatrician about back pain on many, many occasions. It would always hurt to take off my bra, it would feel like weights would be dropped from my chest. I could feel the skin pull on my chest… If I laid on my back, it would be hard to breathe. Of course, I cannot exercise because of the extreme discomfort of large ******* bouncing around everywhere. Lol… My neck would hurt as well, and my posture was beginning to deteriorate. I was always hunched over.

I have Lordosis, also known as sway back. This also contributes to spinal discomfort. Not to mention all the emotional struggles my ***** have brought upon me. Such as being teased my whole darn life… not being able to fit ANYTHING without looking like a jezebel. Finding it impossible to find my bra size at the store. Not being ab le to participate in high school sports. Looking a lot bigger than I actually am. I was 120 pounds and 5’0 and no body noticed that my stomach was bulging with a baby because of my *****.

And pregnancy has made all of the physical difficulties WORSE. But tell me what you think? Honestly, if insurance cannot pay for this, I am willing to be in debt for the rest of my life to feel comfortable in my own skin. I am sick of the pain…

Bob asked:

http://www.craigsteiner.us/articles/16

Time and time again, anyone reading the mainstream news or reading articles on the Internet will read the claim that President Clinton not only balanced the budget, but had a surplus. This is then used as an argument to further highlight the fiscal irresponsibility of the federal government under the Bush administration.

The claim is generally made that Clinton had a surplus of $69 billion in FY1998, $123 billion in FY1999 and $230 billion in FY2000 . In that same link, Clinton claimed that the national debt had been reduced by $360 billion in the last three years, presumably FY1998, FY1999, and FY2000–though, interestingly, $360 billion is not the sum of the alleged surpluses of the three years in question ($69B + $123B + $230B = $422B, not $360B).

While not defending the increase of the federal debt under President Bush, it’s curious to see Clinton’s record promoted as having generated a surplus. It never happened. There was never a surplus and the facts support that position. In fact, far from a $360 billion reduction in the national debt in FY1998-FY2000, there was an increase of $281 billion.

Verifying this is as simple as accessing the U.S. Treasury (see note about this link below) website where the national debt is updated daily and a history of the debt since January 1993 can be obtained. Considering the government’s fiscal year ends on the last day of September each year, and considering Clinton’s budget proposal in 1993 took effect in October 1993 and concluded September 1994 (FY1994), here’s the national debt at the end of each year of Clinton Budgets:

FY1993 09/30/1993 $4.411488 trillion
FY1994 09/30/1994 $4.692749 trillion $281.26 billion
FY1995 09/29/1995 $4.973982 trillion $281.23 billion
FY1996 09/30/1996 $5.224810 trillion $250.83 billion
FY1997 09/30/1997 $5.413146 trillion $188.34 billion
FY1998 09/30/1998 $5.526193 trillion $113.05 billion
FY1999 09/30/1999 $5.656270 trillion $130.08 billion
FY2000 09/29/2000 $5.674178 trillion $17.91 billion
FY2001 09/28/2001 $5.807463 trillion $133.29 billion
@Tiny Tim. Maybe you should try reading my link. The CBO numbers are false
